Rapid City is a city in Pennington County in the u.s. State of South Dakota, United States. It is located in the far west of the State, about 60 miles from the border with Wyoming. It is the capital of Pennington County. It is the second largest city in South Dakota by Sioux Falls.
Rapid City had the great advantage of the Ellsworth Air Force Base was created in the 1940s. At the time, the town of 14,000 inhabitants, but the population doubled in the period during which the base was created.
