Fussen is located at 808 m., And is the highest town in Bavaria. Through the city flows the Danube tributary Lech flows into Forggensee just northeast of the city. Füssen's roots go back to Roman times. The place evolved with the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta which bound together Augsburg and northern Italy.

From 1486 to 1505 built the bishops of Augsburg Hohe Schloss of the medieval city and made it their summer residence.

Today, the region around Fussen an important tourist area, famous for royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau which is located in the immediate vicinity.
