Senegal is a country south of the River Senegal in western Africa. Senegal borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south. The Gambia lies almost entirely within Senegal, surrounded on the north, east and south, the Atlantic Ocean to the west. From coast follows Gambia Gambia River more than 300 kilometers of the continent. Islands Cape Verde is situated about 560 km from the Senegalese coast.

Senegal has a tropical climate with a rainy season from June to September and dry the rest of the year. Temperatures remain high throughout the year, but is slightly lower from December to April.

In the dry season it blows mostly a north-easterly wind, called the Harmattan, and this can lead to sand and dust that reduces visibility. In the inner areas is much lower humidity during this period, and tempeature much higher than on the coast. Night temperature is however lower.

Dakar Rally is an annual automobile and motorcycle racing organized by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). The race is open to amateurs, who typically make up about 80% of the participants.

Despite its name it is an endurance race across the terrain, not a conventional rally. The terrain is run over much rougher, and vehicles are ATVs, unmodified cars in the rally.

The stages go over sand dunes, mud, grasslands, rocks and other things, and each day stage varies from a few kilometers to hundreds of kilometers.
